Mark and Elizabeth developed their interest in uncomplicated regional dishes over many years while resident in Rome. Mark's Italian lineage is from his maternal grandfather, Luigi, head of the deCecco family, some of whom emigrated over the years to the UK, but with the family, and its property owned through several generations, in the small town of Fanna,in the heart of the  Friuli/Veneto area, near to Venice
